The Third International Conference on Small Island Developing States (SIDS) was held in Samoan capital Apia from 1st to 4th of September. This conference, held every ten years, is an important one held by the United Nations to support sustainable development of small island states. The theme of this Conference is ¡°the sustainable development of SIDS through genuine and durable partnerships¡±. The Conference was attended by leaders and officials of over 70 countries and the UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon as well as over 3,000 participants from UN agencies, NGOs and the press.
CNIE engaged experts and entrepreneurs in the participation of the Plenary Meetings, Multi-stakeholder Dialogues and relevant side events and promoted its stances and practices in the post-2015 Agenda, climate change, sustainable development and small island state cooperation from an NGO perspective and yielded great results.
During the Conference, UN Deputy Secretary General Wu Hongbo, UN Department for General Assembly and Conference Management personnel met with the delegation and had exchanges over Chinese NGOs¡¯ participation of UN System events. The delegation also carried out research on advancing the sustainable development of SIDS. It also exchanged views with the Minister of Samoa International Finance Authority on enhancing practical cooperation between China and Samoa.
