Hold the First China-Africa NGO Forum
The First China-Africa NGO Forum co-organized by CNIE and NGO Co-ordination Board of Kenya was held in Nairobi, Kenya from August 29 to 30, 2011. Mme. Wang Zhizhen, Vice Chairperson of the National Committee of the Chinese People¡¯s Political Consultative Conference, Mr. Li Jinjun, Executive Vice President of CNIE, Mme. Zhen Yan, Vice Chairperson of All China Women¡¯s Federation, Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka and other senior members of the Kenyan government, Mme. Zewde, Director-General of Nairobi Office of the UN, and Mr. J.K. Shinkaiye, Special Representative of President of AU Commission attended the Opening Ceremony and other major events of the Forum. About 200 NGO representatives from China and 19 African countries participated in this Forum. Under the main theme of ¡°Develop Partnership, Promote China-Africa Friendship¡±, discussions were held and constructive ideas were produced over sub-topics, namely, Managing Climate Change to Address Food Security; Accountability and Transparency in NGO Sector; Relationship between NGOs, Government, Private Sector & Communities; Traditional Culture Protection and Education Development; the Role of Women and Youth in Development; and Fighting HIV/AIDS in China and African. Parallel events were also held alongside the Forum including a photo exhibition on People¡¯s Friendship between China and Africa, a commissioning ceremony of the ¡°China-Africa Friendship Water Well¡±, a publicity campaign on HIV/AIDS Prevention among the Youth, a charity donation and meetings between Chinese and Kenyan entrepreneurs. The Forum approved the Nairobi Declaration and put forward the Three Principles on people-to-people exchanges between China and Africa.
